TV Top 30, Day 03 – Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)

Gotham

When I started this blog about 5 years ago, I started off a series called TV Top 30, in which I work my way down a list of 30 topics related to TV. I like the idea of a good writing prompt, so I think I’m going to pick this up again. So here we go with my favorite new show that aired this TV season.

Gotham.

I know Marvel gets a lot of love here on my blog, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Batman. I cut my teeth on Batman: The Animated Series growing up, which is arguably one of the best animated series of all time. It still holds up. Kevin Conroy will always be Batman for me.

All that being said, I am perpetually fascinated by the glut of adaptations and reboots we have in today’s world of pop culture. I love the idea of what’s being done with Gotham, with a young Bruce Wayne and Catwoman, the young rogue’s gallery, and seeing the story unfold from Jim Gordon’s perspective.

I have not been able to finish the entire series yet, so please no spoilers in the comments (I think I got about halfway through the series before life got full), but I’d love to know what you all think about Gotham. I heard it sort of went down hill later in the season, but I’d like to think the entire world doesn’t share the same opinion.

What’s your favorite new show this season? The summer season counts too!

I think if I have to pick a favorite new show, it would be Sense8. I’ve finished it now and I absolutely loved the plot and dialogue. The first two episodes were sort of choppy, but after that I was hooked.

There was also a show called Transparent on Amazon that was pretty well done.

    👓 The Deep End Review

    • Still have to watch Sense8. I was very excited to learn that Freema Agyeman is in that too! I loved her as Martha in Doctor Who.

      • M.G. Guyton says:

She is. She isn’t one of the sensates, but she does play a major role throughout the series. She is great. Fist time I saw her in anything was on The Carrie Diaries, which was better than I thought it would be for a spinoff, but then again, A Different World was a spinoff.

While I’m rambling about spinoffs, do you think you’ll watch the Full House spinoff?

      • Great question! I am intrigued by the Full House spin-off. I loved that show so much as a kid. It was one of the few shows I watched that broke my “no shows with real people” rule that I held for my television viewing, HA!

I think what is more fascinating to me is our generation’s obsession with nostalgia. I’m no exception, but mine strictly applies to 70s & 80s science fiction/fantasy/cartoons/films/video games and never in the context of reboots or presidential nominees, HA!

  2. I’m going to play along, too! https://ravingsanity.wordpress.com/2015/06/19/tv-show-meme/

I can also vouch for Sense8 – I’m nearing the end and it’s a lot of fun. In fact, I may have a few things to say about it later in the meme…
