Mid-week Link Round-up

It’s been a full week after a full weekend, so here’s a simple list of some of the places you can find my recent writing, as well as fun happenings around the World Wide Interwebz. StarWarsCourseBanner_MI

Where to Find My Writing

Besides here at my personal blog, you can find my most recent pieces at the following locations.

  • My work in science fiction was honored on the Signum Showcase, the place on the web to find quality student work being done at Mythgard Institute (where I’m working on my M. A. degree). Check out my paper on the fantasy structure of the science fiction novel, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I am extremely humbled by the honor and would love feedback from fans of Cline’s introductory novel.
  • I did a write-up of my experience at ConCarolinas for the Signum Eagle, the newsletter for Signum University, the parent university of Mythgard Institute.

Other Links of Interest

  • If you’re interested in Tolkien and/or Environmentalism, you should definitely tune in to the lecture TODAY at 5:30pm ET with Prof. Matthew Dickerson on Tolkien’s Environmentalism. Don’t miss out!
  • Earlier this month, the casting of Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander was announced for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film. We now know that Katherine Waterston will be playing his wife, Tina. J. K. Rowling has also revealed that we will finally get more information about the Wizarding School in the United States. So many things for Harry Potter fans to speculate on again! What do you think about these casting choices and the possibility of American wizards?
  • If you’re eagerly anticipating Ernest Cline’s next novel, Armada, as much as I am, you can read the first chapter exclusively at iO9. You can also enter to win a signed copy!
  • Star Wars fans have much to be thankful for this year, not the least of these is a brand new The Force of Star Wars class, taught by the brilliant Dr. Amy Sturgis at Mythgard Institute. Watch the course page for up-to-date information, including enrollment (for M. A. credit/auditor credit), read/watch lists, and more information about her Q&A with long-time Star Wars author, John Jackson Miller. I’m taking this class and miss it, you should not.
